Because it is appropriate to give teachers and volunteers the respect of asking them prior to assigning roles, the following is ONLY AN EXAMPLE. After roles are filled, schedules will be provided and resources identified to assist parents!
EXAMPLE ONLY - The following is for illustrative purposes ONLY to show what a schedule MAY look like, after confirmed with teachers.
In the case of a high schooler, we would expect that there will be additional volunteers who will teach elective classes about which they are passionate. Brandon Otis is willing to provide speech and debate class for students and to facilitate competition. Other volunteer teachers have express interest in conducting electives (Drama, Advanced Cooking, etc.) to students, with further details to come.
With regard to the remaining classes, they cannot be finalized until discussions have occurred with additional volunteers. Similar classes (like music, art, etc.) may be offered by parents so that we can pool resources to help students and use time efficiently. These additional classes would not need to necessarily take an entire quarter, semester, or year.
The following is a potential suggested schedule for Monday - Thursday afternoons and Fridays:
On Monday from 1:00-2:00, a parent may facilitate gym time with friends at a park or the church gym to fulfill the Pennsylvania Gym requirement. Please note if the student has completed 7th grade at LCA, this PA requirement for gym has been met. They are not required to do any more gym classes. However, further gym classes can be taken as an elective.
For those interested in advanced cooking, this could be a fun class to conduct at-home or collaborate on with other families on a weekly basis.
On Tuesday from 1:00-2:00, a parent may decide to spend some time on electives such as Accounting, Computer, Economics, Geography, Foreign Language, Personal Finance, etc. There are numerous online options for students desiring to pursue these electives. In addition, these are the types of classes that may be offered outside of hybrid school hours by individuals who are passionate about these topics.
On Wednesday from 1:00-2:00, a parent could choose to complete art or music classes. For Art, this could be enrolling your student in a community art class, signing up for an online art class via a platform like Outschool, or completing a series of YouTube art tutorials over the course of a semester. Please note if the student has completed 7th grade at LCA, this PA requirement for art has been met. They are not required to do any more art classes. However, further art classes can be taken as an elective.
For Music, this could be your child's weekly instrument lesson. A semester of music is required for grades 7-12.
On Thursday from 1:00-2:00, a parent may decide to complete time on electives. Please see Tuesday.
Friday is a flexible day, as all schooling will be completed at-home. Parents may decide to get together and take a field trip to a museum or event. Alternatively, a school at-home day could include completing assignments from in-person hybrid school and elective classes as described above. If you start around 8:00 or so, school should be finished before noon leaving the day open for library visits, volunteering and/or after-school jobs.
