Under PA law, parents are required to keep binders of student work throughout the year. An example of such a binder is here. At the end of the school year, the binder must be evaluated by a PA certified evaluator.
Follow these steps:

Before the end of the school year, locate a PA certified evaluator. It is very understandable that this is new, and might appear daunting. To reduce stress, we highly recommend getting an evaluator in advance and talking with them about their expectations. Clearing away the unknown will make things much less stressful! Please note that evaluators usually charge a fee for their services ($15-$50+ per binder evaluation.) Pennsylvania Homeschoolers Accreditation Agency (phaa.org) will also provide you with a list of their vetted evaluators should your family choose to join.
At the completion of your student's school year, your child will need to be interviewed by the certified evaluator. The evaluator will review the binder (referred to as a portfolio on the form). The evaluator will be checking to see if 180 days of instruction were completed, whether the student was instructed in the required subjects and if the student demonstrated sustained progress during the year. In grades 3, 5 and 8 ONLY, the evaluator will verify that PA mandated standardized testing was completed. Here is a link to the Home Education Evaluation form.
This evaluation must be signed off on by the evaluator and submitted to your local school superintendent by June 30th each year. See below for addresses.
