We are expecting that teachers will fall into one of two categories:
1) Parents volunteering
2) Non-parents who have agreed to teach
Non-parent teachers who agree to teach specific classes or homerooms will be compensated for their time. Parents who participate in the hybrid will be charged a fee to cover these costs. Parents who enroll their children will generally be expected to participate in the education of the students in our community by assisting with teaching, aiding, nursery, etc. Those who are not available to participate may be charged additional fees to provide for others to fulfill these teaching requirements.
Fee Structure:
Tuition: Each class that your student(s) is taking through the co-op is equal to one credit. Each credit costs $100 in tuition for the entire year. So, if your student is taking four core classes, then your student's total annual tuition is $400.00.
Registration: Registration will cover certain overhead costs. The cost is $200 per child with a '2 Child Maximum', meaning that no family will pay more than $400 in registration.
Remittance of fees: You may choose to pay in monthly payments over nine months (September through May). Or, you may pay one lump sum at the beginning of the school year. Please let Ryan McDaniel know how you would like to pay these fees and send your payments into the church office noting: 'Attention: Ryan McDaniel'.
Curriculum for each class will be purchased directly by parents from either a vendor specific to each class, a vendor who provides curriculum for a class the parent has chosen, or from a purchasing group like a home school association. Our size is unlikely to create buying power as an association, so we encourage parents to either buy directly or collaborate on sources of less expensive curriculum.
This page contains lists of required and suggested curriculum for each class so that parents know what they will need to order.
Should you choose to use Abeka streaming to supplement your child's hybrid education, there are additional costs associated with that. Abeka's website lists the various streaming subscriptions available for purchase.
Each year, parents will have to submit their student(s) yearly portfolio(s) to a licensed evaluator. You must locate an evaluator during the school year and secure his/her services. There are evaluators that specialize in different grade levels. So, if your children are varying ages, you may need more than one evaluator. These evaluators will charge for their time. The estimated cost per evaluation is $15 to $50+ depending on the evaluator. The association is recommending that all families join the Pennsylvania Homeschoolers Accreditation Agency (phaa.org). This agency provides members with a list of qualified evaluators, grants accredited diplomas to graduates, and houses and sends transcripts at your request. The cost to join is $50 per child. If you choose not to join PHAA, here is a list of evaluators you can reach out to directly here .
