The Hybrid School Association is an association of homeschool families that work together to pool resources to provide a balanced education for their students while providing a portion of the education in person and a portion of the education at home.
The association is all of the participating families that will pool their resources together to educate their children. All participating families will need to commit both time and effort to be a member of the group. For functional purposes, the association will need a board, and the inaugural association board is going to be comprised of the elders' wives with school-aged children (Mallory Otis, Katie Gaynor, Liza McDaniel, and Becky Grimes) and will be augmented with additional members with teaching experience over the next few months who will help to complement the needs and perspectives of all prospective families and their students. It is important to note that these people have agreed to serve to help other families through the process of transitioning to hybrid.
The goal of the association is to:
1. Help answer questions that arise concerning homeschooling.
2. Provide a safe building for in-person core classroom teaching with administrative assistance and links for curriculum to be purchased.
3. Collaborate with parents and non-parent teachers to assign teaching roles in such a way to meet the needs of the students.
4. Provide good guidance for the other classes and offer curriculum suggestions.
5. Provide additional state-mandated instruction for safety education including fire safety, building safety, etc.
5. Work, in conjunction with the church, to provide physical resources including but not limited to: classrooms, the gym and field, the playground, WIFI, the library, etc.
In contrast, the association will not:
1. Issue report cards - Individual teachers will assign grades per class, and parents will need to track their own children's grades.
2. Provide a transcript - Parents will either need to compile their own or work with an outside agency.
2. Require specific uniforms - All students and adults should dress respectfully and modestly.
3. Schedule field trips - Families can coordinate on their own as desired.
To best meet the necessary state education requirements and to make sure that we are providing a good education for our children, we feel that it is important to pool our resources to provide teaching in the fundamental and core classes of Math, Science, English (Language), and History (Social Studies). To provide this in-person teaching, the association will inherently have costs such as non-parent staff, general supplies, insurance, etc. By utilizing our resources, both physically and financially, we will be able minimize the costs while still supporting all of the participating families as needed.
